Abstract

Why associate ecology with dance? The dossier presented in this issue of RED offers an approach to the issues inherent in that question. An approach that is inevitably incomplete, not only due to the vastness of the world of dance— only lightly touched upon here—but also because of the broad scope of the term ecology. By proposing an approach to that question, this issue is particularly interested in identifying how environmental concerns have been reflected in the creation of performance art.

The articles gathered adopt the term “Anthropocene” to characterize the era in which we live. In doing so, they invite, directly or indirectly, actions that may range from raising awareness to calls for action and protest. Taken as a whole— considering not only the section of original articles but also the connections section—this issue reveals a grounding in ecologically situated creative practices, in a fruitful exercise of research through and with artistic practice.
